Guidance To Develop The Habit Of A Consistent Prayer Life

How Should One's Prayer Life Be On A Daily Basis?

Question : Dear Brother, How should one's prayer life be on a daily basis? Could you please guide me. Because, I want to be strong in this area. With deep regards.

Answer :
Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

To me prayer is like a ocean, so vast that you cannot see the end of it but we can always learn to swim at least in the shore or further up as much as possible. In short, prayer is a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God.

It can be better described as a conversation with God; the intercourse of the soul with God, not in contemplation or meditation, but in direct address to him. Prayer may be oral or mental, occasional or constant, ejaculatory or formal.

It is a “beseeching or pleading the Lord” (Exodus 32:11); “pouring out the soul before the Lord” (1 Samuel 1:15); “praying and crying to heaven” (2 Chronicles 32:20); “seeking unto God and making supplication” (Job 8:5); “drawing near to God” (Psalms 73:28); “bowing the knees” (Ephesians 3:14).

Prayer is not just a option for humanity, but a command from God in the Scripture (Exodus 22:23, 27; 1 Kings 3:5; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Psalms 55:16-17; 37:4; Isaiah 55:6; Joel 2:32; Ezek. 36:37, Jam 4:2, etc...). As air and oxygen is to our physical life, so is prayer for our spiritual life, without it humans cannot have spiritual life within them. In all of us humans, spiritual death reign in us until we call upon God to save us from this pit of sin and death cycle. God always responds to give us the precious life of salvation spiritually in response to our sincere prayers of repentance from sin through Jesus Christ's death on the Cross (Rom 10:13).

Every human has been made by God for finding Him at least by groping in this world of spiritual darkness, so that they can find the light of God in their lives (Acts 17:27). Once we get in to the habit of praying consistently, God's answer to us may be yes, no or no-answer which means wait. God's yes is when it is good for us (Jam 1:17). God will answer ‘No’ if the things we ask for ‘are either not good in themselves, or not good for us or for others, directly or indirectly, immediately or ultimately.’ And when we find no answer at all, it means God has something better for us and it will be the best possible solution for us, so it means God wants us to continue in our prayer for those things. The following are the ways in which we can develop a consistent prayer life,

1) SET TIME : To develop our prayer life on a daily basis, we should set a particular time for prayer in which we should thrown away all the distractions of this world to look unto God privately in our closet, God hears and rewards all such prayers (Matt 6:6).

2) CALL YOUR LOVING FATHER : Pray to your Father in Heaven, not to a object who is trillions of miles away. Jesus Christ our Lord has given us who are the children of God, the Holy Spirit as a helper within us (John 15:26; 16:13-14). Ask the help of the Holy Spirit by saying to Him, "Holy Spirit, teach me to pray to my Father in Heaven!" He is the one who will empower you to call on our Father and be close to him in His embrace always (Rom 8:15-16). To know that our Heavenly Father loves us always, and that He is interested in hearing our voice will make us to run to His presence always.

3) DO FAITH PRAYER :
Prayer must also be offered in the faith that God is, and is the hearer and answerer of prayer (Heb 11:6), and that he will fulfill his word, “Ask, and ye shall receive” (Matthew 7:7,8; 21:22; Mark 11:24; John 14:13,14), and in the name of Jesus Christ (John 16:23,24; 15:16; Ephesians 2:18; 5:20; Col. 3:17; 1 Peter 2:5). In other words, when you know that you are going to be answered for praying in Jesus Christ's name, you can pray consistently in faith without giving up.

4) PRAY BY THE WORD OF GOD : Because God hears all prayers and that is why we all pray. A prayer life of consistent communion with God can only come to us more and more as we come to know Him personally more and more through His Word. Trusting the Word of God is trusting the truthfulness of God's character and know that He will not fail us. Hearing the Word of God produces faith and more faith, which develops us to hear God's voice clearly and make us trust in His wonderful character of faithfulness, love and purity as a person (Rom 10:17). Hence we should eat, drink and live in the Word of God in order to develop our consistency in our prayer life! Each promises you pray reminds God of his promises, and builds your faith in God.

5) TELL EVERYTHING TO GOD :
When we focus on our failures and sins, usually we want to keep it as a secret to be kept from God. That kind of guilty feeling will drive you away from consistent prayer life. Instead, tell everything to God by prayer and supplication, and then allow the peace of God to rule your life after you have prayed (Php 4:6-7). Remember you are never alone, God is with you all the time of your life, that is why Jesus is called as 'Immanuel' who brought God to be with us who are humans through the Spirit of God.

6) DON'T BELIEVE SATAN'S LIE : Satan always wants you to remain prayer less so that he will be able to discourage you in your journey with God. Never believe Satan's lie that you cannot pray consistently, if you have failed on a particular day to pray, try the next day, if you have failed on the next day, carry on and pray the next day without giving up to think that you cannot pray. If you have failed to pray consistently last year, this year God will help you to pray. If you have failed to pray the last decade of your life, this new decade God will help you to pray like never before. Believe you can and you will succeed to have a consistent prayer life!

7) FINALLY PRAY IN TONGUES : Last but not the least, start to pray in tongues. If you have not yet got filled with the Holy Spirit, ask God and He will fill you with the Spirit and testify you with the external evidence of speaking in tongues which is a prayer language for you to intimately communicate with God (Luke 11:9-13; 1 Cor 14:2). Satan hates you to pray in tongues, because only God understands the prayer that He makes it himself for it to be answered by Himself for His Glory. So explore the possibility of praying in tongues starting from a hour, to hours together for being always close to the heart of God. Even you may not understand your prayer, but the prayer which the Holy Spirit produces within your spirit which comes out as cry, groans, languages that you do not understand, may be the exact prayer that you might need to fulfill the purpose of God for your life. So keep praying and keep on praying in tongues!

Much Blessings....
