How Do We Fight And Get Rid Of Soul Ties?

What Are Soul Ties?

Question : What are Soul ties? Is there anything of that sort? How do we fight and get rid of Soul ties?

Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

First of all I must tell that there are traces in Scripture where it shows how people's souls were tied together in friendship, union, fellowship and understanding, but it is not a Biblical concept that can be directly tied to the Bible with the phrase and the verse. The phrase “soul ties” is not in the Bible; some Bible teachers start to speculate certain things as true even when there are no direct evidence from the Word of God, thus those assumptions are in mere speculative category. We should never study certain characters of man and try to superimpose the general principle in to the Scripture to try to prove it as absolute Biblical truth.

Soul ties can generally be described as connections from one person's soul to (or into) another person's soul, a concept which has no basis in Scripture for doctrine, but a good character study can be done to know how intimate connections has the power to influence our soul in positive directions under covenant relationship in obedience to God and His law, or negative directions under illegal relationship which are pursued at the cost of breaking God's law. The general principles can be applied in our lives to avoid ungodly relationship and pursue godly relationship.

The Bible speaks about Jonathan and David in a close loving relationship which became a covenant relationship, in which they promised each other to respect and uphold the other person's interest as their own (1 Sam 18:1-4; Php 2:3-4). The Bible further points to Jonathan and says that he loved David as his own soul. But it cannot be a mystical binding of two souls, but rather a casual and intimate way of expressing about the love of one towards the other.

The Bible says when a relationship happens physically between a husband and wife, or a man and a woman outside of a covenant relationship, the implication of what will be the result of such relationships has been clearly stated in many Scriptures :

Here it is, wisdom of God and his instruction for the wellness of man says, "...he who sins against me wrongs his own soul" (Prov 8:36). Paul expands further and says, "Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (1 Cor 6:18). In other words, apostle Paul is saying, when you have sex outside of marriage, you carry a part of that person whom you have relationship with you as a deposit within you. So no person can say that casual sex is something that can be done and be forgotten, no my Brother and Sister, you carry something of the other person spiritually within you and the part of your soul gets lost within the other person. A clear example is given in the case of Dinah the daughter of Jacob when she went out to have a social outing to meet the people of the local land, a prince named Shechem the Hivite, saw her, took her, lay with her and violated her (Gen 34:1-2). Once the rape happened, the Bible describes that this man's soul was attracted to Dinah, as a result he loved her and spoke kindly to her (Gen 34:3). In other words, the lust at first sight physical relationship of this young man totally affected the mental, emotional and soulish state of that man who had intercourse with the girl. It eventually led to hatred that brewed from the Brothers of Dinah which eventually led to the death of the entire clan of Shechem the Hivite through deceit (Gen 34:4-30, 31; Prov 6:25-35). O what a tragedy! May God have mercy upon those who break the law of God as though it is not a serious thing.

We also have clear warning against fornication in Scripture. “Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’” (1 Corinthians 6:16). In other words, we know one flesh is an aphorism that describes the emotional, thinking and will residue of the initiator persons soul who had sex with giver which gets attached to the soul of his and vice-versa. We know that the body of both do not become one flesh for both to lose the person-hood to become one, but rather they get separated and go their own way with their own body after the time of lust gets over. So the consequence of such ungodly relationship outside of marriage is that they lose a part of their soul and their life gets broken within. Only God can heal such broken soul. In short, whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding, He who does so destroys his own soul (Prov 6:32).

Whether a ungodly relationship is consensual or forced, there is a lingering soul tie that needs to be dealt with otherwise you’ll forever be plagued with thoughts, feelings and even actions that are unwanted.

The remedy for sin is to confess it and forsake it (1 John 1:9; John 8:11), every person who confesses his sins to the Lord Jesus will be forgiven by Him through His shed blood through which He cleanses them from all unrighteousness. Then as the pain of the past are taken to the Lord, the Lord heals the broken hearted and sets the captives free from bondage of all soul ties which has got formed because of all ungodly relationship in their past lives (Isa 61:1; Psa 147:3; Luk 4:18). The only truly satisfying “soul link” is the one we can enjoy with our Creator through our spirit within us (Phil 25; 2 Time 4:22; Php 4:4).

We’re all searching for something to fill up what I like to call that big, God-shaped hole in our souls. Some people use alcohol, or sex, or their children, or food, or money, or music, or heroin. But only God can fill our soul with goodness and make our lives to become like a watered Garden (Isa 58:11). No things or person can ever fill that void in our life which nags us now and then with sorrows within and without which we are not able to escape from (Matt 6:34; 11:28). The more a person gets entangled in the web of ungodly soul ties, the more broken and dry his or her life will become. Sadly, sin drives us constantly to find that satisfaction elsewhere apart from God (Jeremiah 2:13). But Jesus Christ as a result of his love towards us who are sinners, calls us all to Himself and tells us to abide in Him through His Word which has the ability to keep us always near to the heart of God in friendship and favor, without which we can never live a life worthy of Him in joy, pleasure, satisfaction, security, and wholeness— which will be added to us if we seek a soul-tie with God and none else more than Him in priority (John 15:4; Matthew 6:33; Psalm 16; 2 Cor 13:14).

Here are four simple steps to have freedom from soul ties,

1) Acknowledge your mistakes before God and agree that you have sinned against Him (Psa 51:4).
2) Confess and repent of all your past sins done (Acts 3:19).
3) Forgive all those who have sinned against you or forced you to commit error (Matt 6:12, 14-15; 18:22).
4) Break and remove all ungodly soul ties of the past in the name of Jesus by faith (Matt 18:18-20).

You can pray the following prayer by faith from your heart to the Lord :

"O dear Lord, I have sinned against you and knowingly many times and unknowingly sometimes I have broken your laws you have given me to keep for my own good. I confess this sin of sexual unfaithfulness toward you and also my spouse both physically and spiritually in my heart (Num 5:6; Matt 5:28). I repent now to change the way I think, and may your thinking of hate towards sin of omission and commission take deep root in me (Jam 4:17; Heb 9:7). O dear Lord, I forgive all those have sinned against me, just like as Christ has forgiven me unconditionally
(Eph 4:32), please do take the pains of betrayal away and heal my broken heart to make it whole according to your promise again (Psa 34:18; 147:3). I now renounce and loose myself from any ungodly soul ties formed between myself and ________, and I break these ungodly soul ties in Jesus' name and cover myself with the blood of your sacrifice with which I am now cleansed (Heb 9:14). Thank you and praise you for severing me from all unwanted soul ties, from now onward may I faithfully walk with You by the guidance of your Spirit whom you have given me personally as a helper to guide me until death (John 15:26; 16:7; Psa 48:14). May your name be glorified through my life from now onward as I surrender everything of mine and declare it as yours in Jesus wonderful name. Amen and Amen!"

Much Blessings....
