Jesus Anointing A Blind Man With Spit-Clay To Heal Him, Was It A Sign From Jesus?

Why Did Jesus Spit On The Sand And Applied It To The Blind Man When He Could Have Healed Just By Speaking A Word?

Question: Why did Jesus spit on the sand and apply it on the eyes of a blind man who was sitting out of the Temple? Jesus is a mighty God. His words are powerful. He can always say to the blind man "you are healed". But instead of doing that...Why he did it that way...by spitting on the sand and apply it onto the blind eyes...

Is it one of HIS practical demonstration? And why not if we apply that for people but then it's called "Disgusting"?

I had asked so many preachers but none gave me the correct answer.. I'm asking you..I know you may have the correct answer.

As you said "A sign conveys a truth behind it"... what is the truth? This demonstration didn't state the meaning in the Bible?

Answer: Greetings in Jesus wonderful name!

The incident you said was written by John in these following verses,
"1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing." (John 9:1-7).

Even though Jesus in fact could have healed the blind man by a Word, which in fact He did for so many people in his ministry itself
(Matt 8:16-17), this was a sign through which Jesus conveyed a truth behind it. Jesus healed all the sick through his words as he had all the power, and at other places touched their eyes and healed their eyes in a moment of time (Matt 9:27-31), and also commanded his disciples on their apostolic journey to do the same (Matt 10:6-8; Luke 10:9), yet this was a specific intentional instance in which we see Jesus enacting the spiritual message He wanted to convey to people. Jesus healed people many a times for all people to understand that as the Son of God and Son of Man, he only has the power to forgive sins of all mankind (Luke 5:24; Matt 9:6; Mark 2:10), so that they can come to Him and believe Him to be saved from their sins for eternity ahead.

So every miracle teaches us something of the heavenly truth about Jesus and his divine attribute as God, and at the same time it also teaches us that Jesus Christ is the Mediator between God and man, and as one among us He represents our case before God, that we might see Him through it all in His divinity and humanity so that we might get saved from sin
(1 Tim 2:5).

Near Decapolis, some people brought Jesus a deaf man who could hardly talk. Jesus healed the man, of course, but in an interesting manner:
“Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit and touched the man’s tongue” (Mark 7:33). Later, in the town of Bethsaida, Jesus healed a blind man. Again, the miracle was preceded by spitting: “He . . . spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him” (Mark 8:23). To heal the man born blind which we have seen above specifically, Jesus “spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes” (John 9:6). In these three instances only we see Jesus using the spittle in the process of healing. Jesus never healed the same way twice, so using the spittle is not a technique or medicinal belief of his times he promoted but rather it was a clear message to them all that only He can give them true life miracle from God and none other can. Even the insignificant spit that is of no value to be spit on ground, has the power of the Creator to again creatively make a organ whole again by the power of God from heaven. Healing comes from the power of God and every time people saw Jesus' miracles they praised God and said that they had never seen anything like this in their entire lives (Mark 2:12).

Adam was formed out of the dust of the ground
(Gen 2:7), perhaps when the same dust of the ground was taken again by Jesus in this specific instance (John 9:6), it was to demonstrate to all that without His life giving saliva which carries the power and authority of the Creator to destroy the ill-effects of sin and make them whole again in their body and soul, no man can receive any miracle in their life from God except through Him who is the Word who created their forefather Adam initially on the day of creation (John 1:1, 3). The truth he is conveying here is, all humans are born in sin, and we cannot blame a person or his parent as the cause of the any ill-effects that sin brings like blindness and all other sickness or infirmities. But God had allowed sin and the fall of human being in to sin, so that it becomes a opportunity for God to get glorified through the work He does through Jesus Christ His begotten Son (1 Peter 1:20; Eph 1:4; Acts 2:23; Rev 13:8), so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have everlasting life (John 3:16). Jesus is the light of the world when He was present on earth, but now He has come in to His disciples by His Presence and is shining the same light through them to the world, that is the reason He told to His disciples, "You are the light of the world" (Matt 5:14). The day is the light of the gospel message that makes people see God and that which leads to heaven (2 Pet 1:19), night is the eternal death that all humans experience without God by rejecting the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ (John 3:19). Once a man dies, after that there is no chance for him to get saved to see the light anymore, and no one can work to save these miserable souls after that (Heb 9:27). As long as people are present on earth with a power of choice to come to Jesus, God wants us to share the message of the good news of Jesus Christ for them to get saved and see the light of God in their lives (Mark 16:15-18; Matt 28:18-20).

Unless a man seeks Jesus to open his spiritual eyes of blindness, he will die in his sins and will not see the light of God at all in his natural condition for eternity ahead
(John 8:24).

So the spiritual message Jesus spoke before deciding to practically demonstrate the message through enactment of anointing
"the eyes of the blind man with the clay" and then saying to him to “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” which means "Sent", clearly tells that this was a sign with a demonstration of spiritual truth which opened the physical eyes of the blind man when he obeyed Jesus, and so all the spiritual eyes of the blind humans in unsaved condition of sin too will likewise be able to see the light of God, if they choose to believe the gospel message that Jesus has conveyed to each one by sending his apostles and disciples to propagate in order for all to obey it (John 20:21). All humans who once were blind, now can see the light of God in their spiritual lives finally through the miracle salvation of Jesus which the gospel provides to all mankind (John 9:25).

All the miracles that Jesus did were seen by Him first in the spiritual realm and was done accordingly in the earthly realm of action by Him
(John 5:19-20). So why did Jesus spat on the ground, and made clay with the Saliva and then anointed the eyes of the blind man and sent him to pool to wash in it and receive the miracle of eye sight? Of course as we have seen above it was an enactment with a spiritual truth behind it to convey, but more than that if we ask what was the reason behind Jesus doing this enactment at this particular instance?, The answer is, Jesus did what the Spirit of God did through him. The Spirit of God who is the wind blows where He wants and when He wants to do a particular miracle by His sovereign will and wishes, no human know where it comes from or where it goes (John 3:8), all we can do is to feel it tangibly and work the work of God through believing Jesus Christ and do the same action on earth which He has appointed us to do on earth (Matt 12:28; John 6:28-29; 14:12; Eph 2:10). So whether people feel it as disgusting or not it doesn't matter, if the Spirit of God leads us to do the same like Jesus, let us do it, but the genuine miracle of opening the blind eyes will be the result for the Glory of God again! Where God sends, He works miracles if we obey Him. What is truth? Knowing Jesus personally which saves us eternally is the truth (John 14:6).

Much Blessings....
